Sadness as Lincoln Debenhams confirms closing date

Buyers admit they are disappointed when Debenhams in Lincoln prepares to say goodbye for good.

The clothing retailer has been an integral part of the city center for decades.

However, the company announced that it had problems last year.

It was bought by Boohoo in January for a £ 55 million deal.

However, the purchase only included the Debenhams name and website, not the physical stores.

Hopes the stores could show their worth when they reopened for closing sales last month.

We even went there ourselves.

But the closings will proceed now.

A spokesman for Debenhams said, “With such great bargains, it’s no wonder our stock sells out incredibly quickly.”

Mirror Online reports that Lincoln’s store will close for the last time on May 8th.

And that news devastated many people in town when they saw such a big name leave Lincoln.

Many left comments on Lincolnshire Live’s Facebook page when asked for their thoughts on the closure.

Claire Hasyn wrote: “Absolutely. Always shopped there and not sure where I’m going now! But also sad because it’s a legendary British store that has been around for years. My very first job when I was 16 was in a Debenhams, such fond memories. For all employees, feel like so many other stores that have recently closed. “

Rosemary Wilkinson commented, “Yeah I think it’s a real shame I couldn’t go to town because of Covid so I will miss this lovely shop very much if I actually go again. Of course, I also feel sorry for all the people who work there. “

Stephanie Ridpath wrote: “Yes, I really will, I worked there for 10 years, but my mother, my father, my sister and my Nan have also worked there over the years! I met so many lovely people through this shop and have a lot of fond memories. “

Janet Pilgrim added, “Yes, I worked there for 25 years. I will miss everyone. “
