Man in court after ‘midnight break-in with knife’

A man was charged after a family was allegedly threatened with a knife by an intruder.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, the police were called on Haycroft Street in Grimsby.

CCTV footage captured the moment when a half-naked man who appeared to have a gun was chased out of the house by a group of men.

A 33-year-old was charged with criminal harm, affronts and the use of force to secure access to premises.

He appeared before Grimsby Magistrates Court on Monday and was taken into custody.

The man will appear at Grimsby Crown Court on Tuesday June 1st.

A Humberside Police spokesman said: “A 33-year-old man was charged with criminal harm, affronts and the use of force to secure access to premises.

“This comes after an incident on Haycroft Street in Grimsby on Saturday May 1st at 12:40 am.

“The man appeared before Grimsby Magistrates Court on Monday May 3rd and was remanded in custody in Great Grimsby Crown Court on Tuesday June 1st, 2021.”

Armed forces, supported by two dog division teams, were called to the incident.

Police officers conducted door-to-door investigations along the street.

Residents reported large numbers of police officers, one of whom said, “It was crazy. The whole street was cordoned off. Not many people were sleeping.”
