British Gypsum boosts training for plasterers

Starting this month, universities and training providers offering the accredited course can award the participants the qualification “NOCN Cskills Awards Level 2 Certificate Plaster Skimmer” after completing their studies.

Dave Hall, Director of Training Partnerships at British Gypsum, said: “We are delighted that the Site Ready Skimming Course has now been upgraded to a recognized UK qualification.

“It took the British Gypsum team a few years to develop the first course to ensure that students were equipped with the skills to become a proficient plaster skimmer and given them the practice needed to do theirs Techniques to prepare for the workplace.

“The course has now been taught by our own and other specialist academies for over a year – and with amazing feedback.

“Given the results and knowing that this would help fill the skills gap in the industry, we were confident it was time to engage with NOCN to develop a nationally recognized qualification.”

It teaches students the trowel skills and techniques required to be able to fly over plasterboard in the field, including finishing interior angles, processing wet angles, applying and finishing angle beads on outside corners and around openings, and processing splayed ones Angles work around services in flat and window walls.

Plastering large areas to display commercial projects is also an important subject in the course. The learners are stretched and challenged to complete the work on time.

The course also covers the correct use of the latest cleaning tools and methods, as well as identifying bad practices.
